So many generous friends and strangers have made significant donations to Bike & Build in the last month. I know I say it in every blog post, but I can't express enough how grateful I am. I am currently at $3,524 - just under $1,000 below my fundraising minimum. I have a few more fundraising tactics left up my sleeve, including an event at my favorite place, Old Town Bike Shop. As a special treat for all of my friends who have been holding off on donating, I am making a serious commitment:
If I reach my goal of $4,500 by March 31, 11:59 p.m MT,
I will give up my car for the entire month of April.
That's right. As if biking for 72 days this summer is not enough, I'm willing to commute solely by bike should I meet my fundraising minimum in the next two weeks!
On another note, I'm less than 200 miles short of my minimum 500 mile goal before the start of my trip. I've racked of 334 miles to date, and I'm excited to keep the heat up! Personally, my goal is to complete at least one century ride of 100 miles before my trip start. My longest ride so far has been 51.5 miles in the outskirt towns of Falcon and Fountain. I wasn't as worn out as I expected to be, but I was surprised at how windy it was to ride out on the country roads. I'm glad I'm preparing for that now rather than finding out on the trip. Until now, I've never really felt like I could define myself as an athlete. With all this fancy gear and bike knowledge, I really do feel like an athlete now!
We're less than two months away from the start of the trip and I'm feeling confident and excited! Let the countdown begin!
