We received a hero's welcome in Bellhaven. Sam and Lee invited us into First Christian Church where we will sleep tonight. We were shuttled off to some local residents to shower and do laundry. I was lucky to spend the afternoon with 9 of my fellow riders and local residents Dewitt and Jean. They shared their stories of North Carolina. They even took us out on their speed boat before we settled in for a short nap while the laundry finished.
Later that evening we headed to Trinity United Methodist Church for a delicious dinner of baked potatoes, grilled chicken and salad with ice cream for dessert. Yum! After running out to a nearby dock to watch the sunset, we all are taking some time to rest up before our big ride to Greenville tomorrow.
All of the riders were excited to have some time in the company our generous hosts who welcomed us into their home. Thank you to Lee, Sam, Jean, Dewitt, Cris, Audrey, Bud, Deb, Georgie, Laurann, Luda, Mike, and Sandy as well as everyone who supported us at First Christian Church and Trinity United Methodist Church. Thanks to your kindness, we have the energy to get us through this incredible journey!
